Achieving Long-Term pH Stability

Project

A client engaged Pure Polymer Solutions to address persistent pH instability in a large water system. While laboratory testing showed that pH could be adjusted successfully, real-world conditions caused treated water to return to acidic levels over time. The goal was to identify why results were not holding in the field and develop a strategy that delivered stable, long-term pH improvement without excessive chemical use or environmental risk.

Solution

Pure Polymer Solutions applied a science-based diagnostic approach to evaluate how pH behaved over time under field conditions. By studying treatment performance across different timeframes, the team identified strategies that supported sustained alkalinity and improved system stability. This data-driven process allowed PPS to recommend a customized treatment plan focused on long term effectiveness rather than short term correction.

Results

The treatment approach successfully shifted pH away from highly acidic conditions and improved stability over time. After treatment concluded, pH levels remained within a healthier range instead of reverting to previous problem levels. The project demonstrated that understanding time-based water behavior leads to more reliable compliance, reduced chemical use, and cost-effective long-term water management.

Achieving Water Clarity

Project

A Florida residential community sought to enhance water clarity in five ponds surrounding new construction areas. Although most ponds already met regulatory standards, the goal was to reach a higher visual standard without increasing chemical load or environmental impact. Initial analyses revealed variable turbidity levels, low phosphorus in some ponds, and runoff-driven coloration in others, requiring a balanced, site-specific treatment approach.

Solution

Pure Polymer Solutions conducted extensive lab testing using a combination of metal-based coagulants, plant-derived starch blends, and liquid flocculant polymers. Each pond’s chemistry was analyzed to determine the most effective treatment sequence. Adjusted dosing ensured optimal results for both high- and low-turbidity conditions while maintaining safe zeta potential values and neutral pH.

Results

All five ponds achieved measurable clarity improvements, with turbidity reductions ranging from 80% to 98%. Ponds A through C exceeded 95% clarity improvement, while Ponds D and E achieved 94% and 80% reductions, respectively. The treatments restored natural color, improved visibility, and maintained aquatic health, confirming that precision chemistry and responsible design can meet both environmental and aesthetic goals.

Achieving 99% Turbidity Reduction

Project

Analysis of four residential ponds revealed high turbidity, variable pH, and low alkalinity. Pond 1 had the highest initial turbidity (138 NTU) and pH (9.04), while alkalinity was generally low across all ponds. The goal was to find a universal treatment to effectively reduce turbidity.

Solution

Extensive testing identified a specific metal salt coagulant as the most effective. A dose of 50 mg/L worked for Ponds 1-3. However, for Pond 4, a higher dose of 100 mg/L plus a 100 mg/L flocculant was required to achieve the desired clarity, overcoming its unique challenges.

Results

The tailored treatment was highly successful, achieving turbidity below 2 NTU. The results showed a 99% reduction in Pond 1, 97% in Pond 2, 94% in Pond 3, and 97% in Pond 4, significantly improving water clarity across all ponds.

Water Clarity in Central Florida

Project

A recreational pond in Central Florida faced turbidity levels over 4,000 NTUs, making the water visibly unclear and out of spec. The property owners needed a solution that would restore clarity without disrupting public use.

Solution

Pure Polymer Solutions conducted lab testing to replicate site conditions and selected a plant-based hybrid polymer for its effectiveness and sustainability. Using turbidity curtains and nighttime treatment schedules, the product was applied precisely with our patented PUREMIX pump.

Results

Turbidity was reduced from over 4,000 NTUs to 3.56 NTUs. The pond was restored to a clean, usable state with zero disruption and minimal environmental impact—showcasing the power of customized, science-backed treatment.

Construction Site Pond

Project

A newly dug pond at a residential construction site had extreme water quality issues—turbidity at 755 NTUs and color at 9,653 PCU, giving it a nearly black appearance. The site required a solution that addressed both compliance and aesthetics.

Solution

Lab analysis revealed high organic content and phosphorus levels, requiring a custom approach. After standard chemistries underperformed, Pure Polymer Solutions developed a proprietary blend combining metal salts and natural products. Specialized flocculants were also used to bind ultra-fine particles and prevent resuspension.

Results

Turbidity dropped from 755 to 3.30 NTUs (99.56% reduction), and color decreased from 9,653 to 50 PCU (99.48%). The treatment also removed 98% of total phosphorus, reducing the risk of algal blooms and leaving the client with crystal-clear, compliant water.

Construction Site Pond

Project

Pure Polymer Solutions was contracted to treat stormwater and groundwater from a construction project in the Orlando area. The regulatory discharge limit was set at 34 NTUs, but the untreated water from the site exceeded 4,000 NTUs.

Solution

A plant-based polymer blend was deployed to treat the highly turbid groundwater produced by a sock drain and wellpoint system. PPS also introduced its Water Quality Management System, which monitors NTU levels every 15 minutes using a solar-powered, battery-operated unit—providing continuous compliance data in real time.

Results

Average discharge turbidity was reduced to just 11 NTUs—well below the regulatory threshold. The Water Quality Management System enabled 24/7 monitoring and simplified reporting, offering the client a cost-effective, data-driven compliance solution.

Aggregate Wash

Project :

An aggregate mine in western Washington was dissatisfied with the performance of their process water treatment system. The system, using an emulsified PAM flocculant in a solids clarifier, was expensive and resulted in poor quality effluent. Superfine silt and clay particles were not being bond by the flocculant and passing through the filters. Increased flocculant dosing, in an attempt to remedy the issue, only caused additional problems including sending out product that is off-spec.

Solution :

Engineers worked with the company to optimize their system. With extensive testing, it was determined that adding a natural flocculant, PPS-1000, achieved a better overall performance.

Results :

The PPS-1000 is able to coagulate the fine particulates so they can be captured in the clarifier. In addition to greater clarity, the new treatment process using PPS-1000 decreases operational costs by nearly 50%. Additionally, the new chemistry is monomer free and 100% degradable green technology.

Industrial Wastewater

Pure Polymer Solutions was contracted to find a treatment solution for an industrial wastewater customer that had to meet two criteria; Reduce TSS at outfall of the system and find one bio-polymer that could replace their current two step treatment process.

After extensive testing we found that our PPS-1000 plant based polymer would accomplish both of our customer’s needs. The wastewater department was able to reduce their TSS level to an average of 8 at the outfall of the clarifiers. As an added bonus, our customer was able to cut their treatment cost by 40%

Mining & Mineral Processing

Project :

Process water is used in industrial plants, industrial processes and production facilities following extensive water pretreatment such as softening or demineralizing. The objective of treatment to process water is to be able to recycle the water for reuse and feedback into the industrial process. Process water created from the mining and mineral processing industry is commonly contaminated with suspended solids, metals, acids and salts.

Pure_Polymer_Solution_Orlando_Case_Study_third_image_edit
Solution :

Water treated: Wash water, effluent and run-off, heavy solids, clays, and biomaterials.

Chemistry used: PPS-1000 @ 4-10 ppm

Chemistry replaced: polyDADMAC @ 20-35ppm

Results :

The use of PPS-1000 resulted in significantly faster settling time and reduced sludge volume. The lower dose requirement reduced
overall treatment cost by 10%. PPS-1000 is able to coagulate tough-to-treat clay and produced larger and denser floc particles, resulting in increased water clarity and color removal (from clays).
